Community Health Worker course
April 2014 the first part of a course in Community Health was completed in Kenya. This course is funded by the Eshofmarkt from Elst (Gld. NL).

A group of about 20 people have completed a basic course to become Community Health Worker (CHW).

Such a person acts as an intermediary between the population and the doctors of the clinics.

They have learned to recognize complications during pregnancy so that they can refer to a hospital in time. In this way, infant mortality during pregnancy and childbirth can be prevented. They pay attention to proper and healthy nutrition for pregnant women and for mother and child.

Because they educate people about basic hygiene, several new latrines have been built in Sonduas a result.

The course was free for participants, provided that they continue to give their services as volunteers for the local population.
